Teaching at IDarte

The other day, someone dropped one of those phrases on me that keeps spinning around in your head. It's that idea that when someone gives you the opportunity to teach them, they aren't just gifting you their time, but they are also placing their trust in you. They trust that you will accompany them on their learning journey and that what you know will filter into how they see and do things. What a responsibility, right? Well, Asier and I dove headfirst into this adventure this year, all thanks to Borja Sobas, the Interaction Design teacher at ID-Arte.

This year we decided to dive right in and become mentors in the Interaction Design class. We showed the students everything there is to know about how a digital product is created from scratch: starting from that initial idea all the way to launching it to the world, and without forgetting development, marketing, and business along the way.

To be honest, it was a real honor that they counted on us for this subject. And the students' presentations… wow! They truly blew us away, on par with what we do at Chubby Apps. We hope the class grasped our ideas well and that they will be useful for their professional future.

Being mentors at ID-Arte has been, without a doubt, a fantastic exchange. Even though we were there to teach, we also learned something new ourselves every single day. Every question they asked us, every little stumble they had, was an opportunity to see things from another perspective, to remind ourselves why we are passionate about what we do.

Anyway, Asier and I hope to have left something positive with them, the odd pearl of wisdom to serve as a guide. This experience has taught us that teaching is much more than just passing on knowledge; it is connecting, sharing a journey of discovery, and, above all, growing together. And that is where the magic of being a mentor lies: in that back-and-forth of teaching, in that friendship that forms while you learn and teach at the same time.
